June Workshop Aims:
“Generative AI for Good” is a British Council funded project which aims to significantly extend existing collaborations between the UK (Nottingham Trent University, NTU) and Bangladesh Higher Education (HE) Institutions and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Providers. Through these partnerships, we will work together to progress and accelerate the internationalisation of the HE/TVET sector, with a particular focus on the increasing role of “AI for Good” to tackle barriers to the access to HE/TVET for students experiencing learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD), sensory and physical impairments, those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and women students in Bangladesh.
This first workshop in Dhaka from 22nd-24th June 2025, covered our “Inclusive Education Toolkit” which was co-created with Jahangirnagar University (JU, BD), the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET, BD), and a range of European and Indian partners for use by HE and TVET staff to enable students with disabilities to enjoy the same access to HE as their peers, including access to digital training materials. Our Inclusive Education Toolkit comprises guidelines, checklists and leading-edge practices, an Accessibility Checker Tool and an AI-powered EdTech Tool to understand student engagement (https://diversasia-accessible-he.eu/toolkit/) and is based on NTU’s world-leading inclusion research, teaching practices and standards relevant to, and embedded in, the Bangladesh context.
Objectives:
1. Capacity building of academics and staff in HE and TVET institutions in Bangladesh via training in leading edge inclusive education practices building on existing partnerships and significantly expanding this network: Supporting the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices in inclusive education, and widen access and support to enable all students to succeed within HE and TVET, including disadvantaged, less privileged and excluded individuals.
2. Supporting TNE to transform local education systems and contribute to Sustainable Development Goals: Our partnership will widen access to HE and TVET education, especially for students with learning difficulties, sensory and physical impairments, students facing socio-economic challenges and women students.
