Referencing GenAI Generated Content

Follow university guidance on the use of AI outputs in your assessments.  Where their use is permitted, make sure that you cite and reference them in your work, and that you also follow any additional School guidance on acknowledging the use of AI.

If you are submitting your work anonymously, replace 'Prompted by name' in the examples with 'Prompted by Student ID number'.

For text generated by AI:

Option A – where there is no option to create a shareable link:

Template - Name of AI tool used, Year used. Title [communication type].  Prompted by name, date of prompt.

Example 1 - Microsoft Copilot, 2024. How AI can help students with their research [AI generated text].  Prompted by Sarah Student, 26 April.

Example 2 - Microsoft Copilot, 2024. How AI can help students with their research [AI generated text]. Prompted by 'student ID number', 26 April.

Option B – where there is the option to create a shareable link:

Template - Name of AI tool used, Year used. Title [communication type].  Prompted by name.  Available at: web address [Accessed date].

For images generated/altered by AI:
