Check the room's acoustics and, where available, that assistive listening systems (hearing loop, FM system) are working before the session begins.
During teaching

Face the class when speaking; avoid talking while facing a whiteboard or screen, even briefly.

Use a microphone consistently, not only when specifically asked to.

Repeat or summarise contributions from other students before responding, since these are often the hardest part of a session to follow.

Structure group discussion with one speaker at a time and clear turn-taking, rather than open, overlapping conversation.
After teaching

Offer a short check-in to confirm nothing important was missed during the session.

Share a written summary or recording of key points.

Ensure any agreed communication support (interpreter, note-taker) is confirmed for the next session, rather than needing to be re-arranged from scratch each time.
