ADHD is one of the most common, and most frequently misunderstood, forms of neurodivergence in higher education. Many students arrive at university with a school-level understanding of their own ADHD, but without the external structures — timetabled routines, small class sizes, parental oversight — that quietly helped them manage it before. Higher education tends to raise executive-functioning demand at exactly the moment those supports disappear, which is why a student who coped adequately at school can struggle significantly at university, through no change in ability.
